| Preparations for Treatment | Before choosing the clinic for performing laser hair removal you should meet with your doctor to discuss the factors that determine whether the procedure is likely to work well for you. This meeting generally includes: • Your medical history. Your doctor asks questions about illnesses you have or have had, problems with your health as well as any medications you're taking. • Photographs. Photographs are taken from different angles of the area to be treated. Your doctor uses these photos to evaluate the results before and after treatment and for long-term reviews. • A discussion of risks, benefits and expectations. You and your doctor talk about possible risks and advantages. He or she explains what can you expect, what laser hair removal can and can't do for you and what your results might be.
While the process in itself is considered to be very safe, candidates for laser hair removal should preferably follow the following pre-treatment tips: 1) If you have a tan from sun exposure or sunless tanning products, you must wait until the tan disappears completely before performing laser hair removal. A person with a tan is subjected to risks such as blistering and discoloration. You should avoid sun exposure four to six weeks before treatment. 2) Laser hair removal is applied only on short, visible hair. You should shave the area to be treated and allow it to grow to stubble two to three days before the procedure. Three weeks before treatment you should also avoid waxing or plucking the hair and electrolysis. 3) To reduce the risk of complications, your doctor may ask you to discontinue taking medications such as aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or dietary supplements such as niacin and vitamin E. 4) If you are likely to suffer from cold sores or have genital herpes, start taking appropriate medicines before the treatment.
