laser_hair_removalWhat to Start From?

Every hair removal procedure is preceded by a complimentary consultation with the Physician, offering the opportunity to learn more about these exciting procedures and to ask questions. In some clinics the first treatment can be performed on the very day of consultation.

It is advisable to avoid sun tanning and the use of self tanners for 4 weeks before and after the procedure. For best effectiveness, plucking and waxing are not advised for 2 weeks before the treatment, and bleaching for one week. Shaving or clipping is acceptably.

Laser Hair removal starts at $200 per treatment. The cost will vary according to the size of the area being treated. The desired result is usually achieved with 4-8 treatments, spaced 4-8 weeks apart.

What can be Done for Patients with Blond, Light Brown, or Gray/Silver Hair?

A product named Meladine has recently been available to increase the results of laser hair removal in individuals with the mentioned above color of hair. Meladine is a natural melanin enhancer that is used before every treatment. It is applied locally to the skin twice every day and works at the level of the hair follicle, producing no noticeable changes in the hair color itself. For individuals with light brown, blonde or vellous (very thin) hair, Meladine is frequently started two weeks previous to the laser treatment. In persons with coarse, gray or white hair it is used for a period of four to six weeks prior to the procedure.
Meladine is registered with the F.D.A. as a cosmetic preparation, not a drug. Despite the fact that many physicians are reporting exciting results with Meladine, there is no guarantee that Meladine will work the same for everyone. Results may differ depending on the patient’s adherence to the application and treatment regimen. Supplementary variables may include density and coarseness of hair, hormonal changes, etc.

Does Hair Need to be Long to Perform Laser Hair Removal?

Quite the reverse. It is preferred that your hair be short somewhere 1-2 mm (1-2 days growth) at the time of the procedure. Hair can be clipped or shaved before the treatment but waxing or plucking is avoided for 2-3 weeks previous to the treatment to enhance effectiveness. It is important that back hair be shaved one day prior to treatment.
